Mr. Makarand (“Mak”) Tare MS, MRCS (Edin.), MCh(Plast), DNB(Plast), FRCS (Plast.) is the UK, and internationally trained Consultant Plastic Surgeon, practicing in Essex and London. Mr. Tare was determined to pursue his career as a surgeon from the outset of his medical training. Although close to completion of qualification as a Consultant General Surgeon, Mak decided to steer his career into Plastic surgery in 1994. As a young surgeon, he was fascinated by this unique blend of Art and Science known as Reconstructive Surgery. This specialty empowers the surgeon to reconstruct what nature or accident has taken away from human beings. All procedures require absolute attention to detail and a perfectionist approach. Successful outcomes result in immense professional satisfaction for the surgeon and life-enhancement for all patients. He qualified as a Plastic Surgeon MCh (Plastic Surgery) and also achieved the National Board certification DNB (Plastic Surgery) in 1997. Mak pursued additional specialist training in Plastic surgery. He spent the next ten years in upgrading his skills, knowledge, and experience by undergoing further training in Plastic & Cosmetic surgery units in Glasgow, Manchester, Chelmsford, EastGrinstead and London. He obtained his MRCS (2002) and FRCS in Plastic surgery(2008) qualification after the successful completion of training programs as a specialist registrar in the London region. He took a special interest in developing his skills in the challenging field of reconstructive microsurgery for breast, upper and lower limb, and head & neck reconstruction. He also completed the advanced training fellowships in Hand Surgery in Manchester and Chelmsford. He also finished mini-fellowship in ‘Revision Rhinoplasty” in May 2015 at Bergamo, Italy. In the quest for broadening his horizons, Mak has traveled extensively across the continents and visited the renowned units in Santander (Spain), Barcelona( Spain), Modena (Italy), Bergamo (Italy), and Louisville ( USA). He has also visited the African subcontinent as a visiting Plastic Surgeon under the International Plastic Surgery Aid Programme. He was invited to Dhaka Medical College Bangladesh in 2013 where he delivered a series of lectures and conducted workshops on Plastic and Micro Surgery. He has maintained his enthusiasm in the variety of plastic surgical procedures and follows all developments within the profession by regularly attending the international and national meetings and workshops. As NHS Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the renowned St Andrews Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery at Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford and Colchester General Hospital, he offers complex reconstructive procedures for upper and lower limb reconstruction, skin cancer, abdominal wall reconstruction, and general plastic surgery cases. In the private sector, Mak carries out the entire range of cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures in reputed hospitals. His procedures of special interest include Eyelid surgery, Facelift, Rhinoplasty, Pinnaplasty, Cosmetic Breast Surgery, Abdominoplasty ( tummy tuck). Liposuction and body contouring. Mak offers a comprehensive range of cosmetic services to all his patients including the nonsurgical treatments i.e.Botox and Dermal fillers for facial aesthetics. He has completed the advanced courses for Botox and dermal fillers in London. Mak offers over 18 years of broad-based training and experience in Plastic Surgery to all his patients. Mak is also actively involved in teaching and training future generations of doctors and Plastic surgeons. This willingness to teach extends beyond his immediate professional circles, and he frequently delivers lectures and support to other groups. He is a faculty member in the Basic Surgical Skills course and Basic Hand Surgery skills course organized by Royal College of Surgeons London for young trainees. Mak Tare approaches each of his patients as an individual; he first listens to the patient’s desires and expectations, which helps in providing personalised care and the results to his patients. A new patient consultation usually lasts for about 30 minutes and involves active listening to the patients, the professional assessment of the problem – and impartial advice as to the availability and suitability of various procedures. He encourages patients to have a clear understanding of the treatment plan before the procedure is performed – and sometimes this may require further visits before a final plan is confirmed. Mak offers the ‘cooling-off’ period of two weeks to all his cosmetic patients so that they get time to understand and think about the implications of surgery. This two weeks cooling off period also allows the patient to make the necessary personal arrangements with work and family before undergoing the procedure. Mak has established a reliable support network through the dedicated staff in the various professional hospitals. This emphasis on approachability, communication and support is enhanced by a dedicated private secretary.
