Lap Band Fills

Gastric banding is a widely-used operation type that helps patients lose weight. An adjustable band is wrapped around the upper portion of the stomach during the surgical weight loss surgery known as gastric banding, commonly referred to as lap banding. This controls how much food a person can eat and induces a fullness sensation, which promotes weight loss.

The silicone lap band is wrapped around the top portion of the stomach, forming a little pouch. When a person eats, this pouch quickly fills up, causing them to feel full more quickly and consume less food overall. With a port positioned beneath the skin in the abdomen, saline fluid can be added or removed to adjust the band. This enables medical providers to adjust the level of restriction to a patient's specific requirements.

Those with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater are frequently advised to get a gastric band, as are those with a BMI of 30-39 who also have additional weight-related health issues including type 2 diabetes or sleep apnea. In this sense, gastric banding can be helpful for many patients depending on their situation.

One advantage of gastric banding is that it is a minimally invasive surgery that is frequently performed as an outpatient treatment, allowing patients to return home the same day as the operation. In comparison to other weight loss procedures like the gastric bypass, recovery time is often shorter. For the right patients, gastric banding can be a useful weight-loss technique overall. The optimal course of action for each person's weight reduction needs and goals should be determined after discussing all available alternatives with a healthcare practitioner. Make sure that you are on the right path by discussing gastric banding with your doctor.
